Lead A Society

Leading a society at Your Students’ Union is an extremely rewarding experience for any student. These voluntary roles equip you with a whole range of new skills such as:

  • Effective oral and written communication
  • Financial management
  • Project planning and execution
  • Team management and leadership

You will be provided with core training and workshops to help you gain skills and knowledge that make you more employable.

You can also get rewarded for your volunteering at our end of year awards celebrations.

A dormant society is one that is not active and has no current committee managing it, previous committee may have graduated or left the society. The society does not have any members but may have an interested list of students. As well as this a dormant society will already have an email account and may have social media, finances and resources established. A new society is brand new so won’t have the prepared emails or balances that may come with a dormant society. Staff will support you to set up the society and you will receive training to help you establish a society overall.

  1. Gather your society details: Who will be on the committee, what is the purpose, are there any key aims?
  2. Submit your application using this form including full details you have outlined. You can use this form to start a new society or adopt a society.
  3. A member of the staff and sabbatical officer team will review your application and get back to you with any questions or outcomes of the decision panel.
  4. Complete your training and start operating as a society
